Jonathan Keeble

Jonathan Keeble is known for his rich tone, effervescent personality, and nuanced musicality. In high demand as performing artist and master class clinician, he has been described as having an “infinitely flexible sound, with many subtle colors,” and is among the leading performer/pedagogues of his generation.

Jonathan is a regular performer, adjudicator, and presenter at National Flute Association (NFA) conventions, and is a Past President of the Association. In 2023, he became the Association’s 15th recipient of its Distinguished Service Award. Recent tours include appearances on concert series and festivals in New Zealand, Brazil, Australia, Ecuador, Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and throughout the United States.

He has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and in chamber recitals with Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, and Luciano Pavarotti, among others. Classes and solo performances include appearances at the Eastman School of Music, the Juilliard School, Rice University, Indiana University, Northwestern University, and venues throughout the globe. His critically acclaimed recordings as soloist, and as a member of the Prairie Winds and Aletheia Duo are available on Albany Records.

Jonathan is the flutist for the award-winning Prairie Winds and Aletheia Duo, and Principal Flute of the Sinfonia da Camera. He spends summers performing and teaching at Aria International and Orford Musique. As the Professor of Flute at the University of Illinois, Jonathan is one of two faculty in the School of Music’s history to receive the Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence. In the spring of 2017, he received the College of Fine and Applied Arts Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Jonathan’s students populate the globe as recording artists, faculty at universities and colleges, and as orchestra members. He plays a Nagahara Full Concert flute with 14-karat headjoint, and platinum extended riser.
